FORECAST DISCUSSION

MPI070615

After yesterday’s Monsoon action, storm chances start to decrease.

Drier air from the southwest limits the thunder threat this week. This afternoon features a 20% chance of storms in Metro Tucson as highs reach the mid 90s. Areas along the International Border & mountaintops stand the best chance of thunder today. Storms should fade quickly after sunset.

Today’s Monsoon Prediction Index is 3 out of 10 for Tucson, indicating a low thunderstorm risk.

While a spotty storm can’t be ruled out tomorrow through Friday, much of southern Arizona stays dry this week. As we dry out, temps heat up. 100° temps return Wednesday.

This weekend could see winds aloft shift from southwest to southeast, leading to an increase in Monsoon moisture and storm development. Expect a 20% chance of storms Saturday & a 30% chance of storms Sunday with highs around 100°.
