FORECAST DISCUSSION

HRRR_070715

A lot of heat, but not a lot of storms.

Dry air from the southwest and a warm atmosphere leads to a 10% chance of storms today. Favored areas for storms this afternoon likely will be in the mountains. For the 28th time in 2015, Metro Tucson reaches 100° for a daytime high.

Today’s Monsoon Prediction Index is 1 out of 10 for Tucson, indicating a low storm risk.

Thunderstorms remain the isolated hit & miss variety through early next week with high temps hovering around the century mark. Winds aloft shift from southwest to southeast by the weekend, leading to a slight uptick in storm chances. A 20% chance of thunder returns as early as Friday.
