FORECAST DISCUSSION

HRRRR_072815

At long last, a decent shot of storms for southern Arizona.

Ample moisture is in place to support scattered storms today. Much of this development looks to take place across Pima, Santa Cruz and Cochise Counties. Tucson stands a 30% chance of storms through this evening, with daytime highs in the 100s. There is a 20% chance of isolated storms overnight.

Today’s Monsoon Prediction Index is 4 out of 10 for Tucson, indicating a moderate threat of gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

The most active day for the Monsoon this week looks to be tomorrow, as moisture interacts with a mid-level disturbance moving in from Mexico. A 40% chance of storms is possible for Metro Tucson & much of southern Arizona. Flash flooding will be the primary concern, especially along the International Border.

Scattered storms remain in the forecast through the first half of the weekend, decreasing to the isolated variety early next week.
