The most active day for the Monsoon this week arrives today.

Metro Tucson features a 70% chance of storms this morning, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. There is a 40% chance of storms later this afternoon, mainly across Pinal, Pima and Santa Cruz Counties. Storm chances would be higher today if there was not morning activity racing across the state. It is possible that the thunder threat decreases later today if morning storms use up the energy in the atmosphere.

Today’s Monsoon Prediction Index is 5/10 for Tucson, indicating a moderate risk of storms. Gusty winds and blowing dust are the primary threats with today’s activity.

Drier air enters from the east the rest of the work week, decreasing storm chances to the isolated nature and increasing high temps. Tucson reaches 103-105° tomorrow through the weekend. Scattered storm chances return by Monday.
