FORECAST DISCUSSION

The thunder threat starts to decrease over the next few days.

High pressure settles near southeastern Arizona. This feature will suppress storm development heading into the weekend, with only a 30% chance of scattered storms possible today. Highs return to triple digits in Tucson for the 59th time this year. Today’s forecast high calls for 101° at the airport.

Today’s Monsoon Prediction Index is 3 out of 10, indicating a low storm risk in Tucson.

Storm chances decrease to 20% Friday and Saturday. Scattered storms may return Sunday and Monday, but overall a low grade Monsoon forecast is anticipated over the next 7 days. This is thanks in part to poor positioning of high pressure and a lingering trough near the Pacific coast.

SKY CANDY OF THE DAY

Big Bisbee storm, snapped yesterday by Oscar Herrera. Looks like this had some weak mid-level rotation. Impressive vertical structure.
