There is a 50% chance of storms today. While the timing remains uncertain, it does appear the prime time for thunder will be 3-8 PM. Daytime highs reach the low 90s before the rain arrives. Storm chances decrease to 30% late tonight.
Today’s Monsoon Prediction Index is 5 out of 10 for Tucson, indicating a moderate risk of heavy rain, gusty winds & blowing dust on I-10.
Storm chances start decreasing heading into Labor Day weekend. Friday features a 40% chance of storms, dropping to 20% Saturday into the middle of next week. Metro highs range from the upper 80s tomorrow to the mid 90s by Labor Day.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT STORMS DURING THE GAME?
According to the NCAA, a football game is delayed when lightning and thunder happens within 6 miles of the stadium (30 seconds between flash & bang). Players and fans are asked to clear the stadium and seek shelter indoors or in the concourse. Once 30 minutes has passed from the last flash or sound of thunder, the game will be resumed.
