Heating up for Homecoming weekend.
Highs today reach the upper 70s metro-wide. A weak storm system may touch off a few showers in the White Mountains, but sunny skies prevail for much of southern Arizona. Expect overnight lows to drop to the mid 50s under clear skies.
This weekend features high pressure building into the state, which drives daytime highs into the mid 80s. Gusty east winds up to 20 MPH are possible as early as Saturday morning, weakening by Monday.
A mix of mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies dominates the forecast next week. Models hint at a new storm system approaching Thursday, which may increase cloud cover and winds. High temps should remain in the 80s.
HURRICANE PATRICIA UPDATE
You are looking at the strongest hurricane ever recorded by the National Hurricane Center. Patricia is a category 5 hurricane, packing sustained winds of 200 MPH. Landfall is expected this evening between Puerto Vallarta & Manzanillo (and lately it’s leaning more Manzanillo’s way). I’m not one for hyperbole, but we could be talking Katrina-like destruction in southwestern Mexico. Here’s to hoping everyone makes it out alive.
