Thursday’s Tucson Forecast: Rain & heavy mountain snow arrives




Today – 100% chance of showers. 54°, southwest wind 15-30 MPH.

Tonight – 70% chance of showers. 40°, southwest wind 5 MPH.

Tomorrow – 40% chance of showers. 51°, west wind 10-15 MPH.



The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Mount Lemmon & Mount Graham, in effect from 11 AM today until 5 AM Friday. In addition, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the White Mountains from 11 AM today until 11 AM Friday.

A strong storm system enters the state today. Numerous showers & mountain snow breaks out by late morning, continuing through the evening hours. Tucson stands a 100% chance of rain this afternoon, decreasing to 70% overnight.

Snow levels drop from 7,000 feet to 4,000 feet tonight, with a dusting to 1” snow possible in Oracle, Sierra Vista and Sonoita. Heaviest snow will be above 7,000 feet. Mount Lemmon may see 12-24” snow between this afternoon & tomorrow.

Scattered showers are expected to develop tomorrow, especially east of Tucson. Valley rain totals from this storm system should be in the 0.30-0.75” range.

This weekend features a drying trend. Partly cloudy skies prevails Saturday, followed by a slight shower chance Sunday afternoon. Highs peak in the low to mid 50s with overnight lows bottoming out in the mid 30s. Models hint at more sunshine and warmer temps for the first half of next week.
