FORECAST DISCUSSION

Sat012716

Wrapping up the month with a warming trend, but the start of February looks unsettled.

High pressure anchored over the southwest controls the weather the next several days. Daytime highs range from the mid 60s today to the mid 70s Friday. Plenty of sunshine is anticipated heading into the weekend.

A pattern change unfolds this weekend, as the jet stream takes aim at southern Arizona. An approaching Pacific cold front increases clouds and winds Sunday. The first half of Monday features a 70% chance of valley rain & mountain snow. Highs Monday afternoon struggle to reach the mid 50s, which is roughly 20° cooler than Sunday.

Widespread freezing temperatures are possible by daybreak Tuesday, followed by highs in the low 50s under mostly sunny skies. The average high for the first week of February is 67°.
