The Winter warm-up is underway.
A string of days in the 70s begins this afternoon. Tucson peaks in the mid 70s today through Saturday. Mostly sunny skies are expected to round out the work week, with clouds increasing this weekend. Highs the next several days run nearly 10° above average.
The warm weather comes to a halt early next week. Developing in the Pacific is a strong cold front, which will kick up the winds Sunday afternoon. Widespread rain/snow showers move in late Sunday night, tapering off by lunchtime Monday. Gusty winds continue Monday afternoon after the front passes through.
Models indicate snow levels as low as 3,500 feet Monday morning, putting flakes into metro locations like the Catalina Foothills, Vail and Catalina. 1-2” snow is possible south & east of Metro Tucson, with areas above 7,000 feet potentially picking up 5-10” snow. Valley rain totals should be in the 0.25-0.50” range.
Highs drop 20-25° between Sunday and early next week. Freezing temps are likely by daybreak Tuesday and Wednesday.
