Wednesday’s Tucson Forecast: Will the ice break on the Santa Cruz?

Today – Mostly sunny, warm. 97°, southwest wind 10-15 MPH.

Tonight – Clear. 64°, southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tomorrow – Mostly sunny, windy. 95°, southwest wind 20-30 MPH.

A close call for 2016’s first 100° reading this afternoon.

Daytime highs peak in the upper 90s today. Tucson’s forecast high of 97° runs 9-11° above average under mostly sunny skies. There’s an outside chance some backyards hit 100°, but odds of Ice Break this afternoon stand at a mere 7%.

Tomorrow features highs in the mid 90s and the return of gusty winds. An approaching trough develops 20-40 MPH wind gusts through Friday, with a Fire Weather Watch in effect for southern Arizona both days. Blowing dust is likely along I-10 near Picacho Peak and east of Willcox.

As the storm system crosses the state, temperatures tumble. Daytime highs range from the low 80s Friday to the upper 70s for Mother’s Day weekend. Enough moisture in play could pop a few isolated showers Saturday, especially west and north of the metro. Gusty winds ease up early next week.
