The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for all of southern Arizona, in effect today and tomorrow from 12 PM until 8 PM. This includes Metro Tucson, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Douglas, Safford & surrounding communities. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A strong trough is the dominant weather influence heading into the weekend. Southwest wind gust up to 40 MPH this afternoon as high peak in the mid 90s. Blowing dust is possible along I-10 near Picacho Peak and east of Willcox. Similar wind gusts redevelop Friday afternoon, decreasing by Saturday.
This trough swings through the state for Mother’s Day weekend, dropping highs to the upper 70s. A few isolated showers may pop up Saturday and Sunday, with areas north & west of Tucson standing the best chance of rain.
High pressure regains control of the forecast early next week, driving daytime highs into the low 90s as early as Wednesday.
