It’s going to be a close call. Today’s forecast high of 99° runs 8-10° above average for mid May. Models indicate a 23% chance of hitting triple digits this afternoon. Expect mostly sunny skies through the day, with scattered high clouds overnight.
Friday features a much better shot at the first 100° day of 2016, with the latest odds sitting at 59%. Much of Metro Tucson peaks in the 100s tomorrow afternoon. The Sky Islands may see a few afternoon showers, but valley floors remain dry and hot.
As high pressure slides away from the state this weekend, a storm system approaches from the north. Enough moisture moves in from the south to trigger a few isolated showers & storms Saturday, especially east of Tucson. Highs this weekend drop to the low to mid 90s, accompanied by gusty winds.
Cooler temps & lighter winds prevail early next week. Daytime highs peak in the mid to upper 80s as early as Monday, followed by breezes decreasing Tuesday afternoon.
