The Old Pueblo reaches the 100s for the 10th time in 2016 this afternoon. Highs today for much of southern Arizona are on par with mid June averages. Ample sunshine is on tap with southwest winds gusting to 15 MPH.
High pressure continues to expand over the Rio Grande Valley, eventually retreating toward Arizona this weekend. This coincides with some of the hottest temps Tucson has experienced in over 2 decades. A prolonged stretch of 110°+ days starts Saturday, lingering through early next week. Lower elevations of southern Arizona are under an Excessive Heat Watch Sunday through Tuesday afternoon.
Sunday’s forecast high of 115° would shatter the old record of 112° set in 1989 & be the third hottest temperature ever recorded in Tucson. Record-breaking highs are also expected Monday afternoon.
