FORECAST DISCUSSION

POPS062716

A daily thunder threat to wrap up June.

This afternoon features a 20% chance of metro storms. Storm development may be suppressed today, thanks to sinking air behind a departing mid-level disturbance. Highs reach the 100s for much of Tucson, with overnight lows dropping to the upper 70s.

Isolated hit & miss storms are expected once again Tuesday afternoon.

Monsoon moisture begins to increase by mid-week, fueling an increasing thunder threat. Tucson stands a 40% chance of storms Wednesday through Friday. Gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall are the primary threats. Daytime highs to wrap the work week struggle to reach the mid to upper 90s.

Storms may decrease in coverage in time for the Fourth of July weekend. Drier air infiltrating the state drops storm chances to the isolated variety as soon as Saturday.
