FORECAST DISCUSSION

Hot & dry remain the operative weather words.

High pressure over northern Chihuahua continues to keep Monsoon moisture south of Arizona. Metro Tucson reaches the triple digits for the 32nd time this year today. Sunshine this afternoon gives way to a mild night, as lows bottom out in the upper 70s.

Some moisture trickles in from Mexico tomorrow, leading to a few storms along the border. Cities like Nogales, Sierra Vista and Douglas stand a 10% chance of storms Wednesday through Friday. The Old Pueblo should stay dry as mostly sunny skies prevail.

Long range models continue to show high pressure moving toward New Mexico this weekend & early next week. This pattern is more favorable for storm development across southern Arizona, thanks to southeasterly winds aloft. A 20% chance of storms returns to the forecast for Tucson Saturday through Monday.

SKY CANDY OF THE DAY

Lonesome lightning, captured on July 1st by Chris Frailey in Phoenix. He sends this as a reminder of what the Monsoon used to look like in early July. Fear not, desert dwellers. Still lots of time left in Monsoon 2016.
