Friday’s Tucson Forecast: Winter Storm Warning/Wind Advisory in effect

Tonight – 100% chance of showers. 48°, southwest wind 30-50 MPH.

Tomorrow – 100% chance of AM showers. 57°, west wind 10-20 MPH.

FORECAST DISCUSSION

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Southern Arizona mountains until noon Saturday.

In addition, a Wind Advisory is in effect for much of Southern Arizona from 8 PM today until 8 AM Saturday. This includes Metro Tucson, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Douglas, Oracle & surrounding communities.

This afternoon features a 30% chance of showers, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Widespread rain & mountain snow engulfs the state late tonight through Saturday morning. A few thunderstorms are possible, as snow levels drop to 5,000 feet.

Strong winds develop during the overnight hours. Expect southwest winds up to 50 MPH, while mountains could experience higher gusts. Blizzard conditions are likely into the mountaintops overnight.

Showers/mountain snow tapers off late Saturday morning. Valley floors may pick up 0.50-1.00″ rain with isolated higher amounts possible. Mount Lemmon, Mount Graham and the White Mountains are in line for 15-35″ snow.
