Monday’s Tucson Forecast: Flash flood threat continues

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Southern Arizona until 10 PM today. This includes Metro Tucson, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Safford, Oracle & surrounding communities.

Conditions are favorable for any storm to produce at least 1″ of rainfall in a short time. There is a 40% chance of storms this afternoon & tonight for the Old Pueblo. Even though morning cloud cover may limit coverage of storms, the flash flood threat will continue through the night.

As a reminder, flooding causes more deaths than any other thunderstorm hazard. Over half of flash flood fatalities occur in vehicles. It takes only 6″ of running water to knock a person down & 1-2 feet of water can float most vehicles.

Highs this afternoon peak in the low 90s.

Scattered storms remain in the forecast for the work week, ranging from a 50% chance on Wednesday to 30% Thursday into the weekend. As rain chances drop off, temperatures increase. Daytime highs reach the upper 90s to wrap the work week.
