Wednesday’s Tucson Forecast: Thunder threat trending up

Storms have been more miss than hit in Metro Tucson the last few days. This afternoon could be a different story.

Scattered storms are expected to develop. Favored areas for storm development include Pima, Santa Cruz & Western Cochise Counties from 1-5 PM. Tucson stands a 50% chance of storms in this timeframe, with a few storms possibly containing heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Highs peak in the mid 90s, followed by lows bottoming out in the mid 70s. Partly cloudy skies prevail late tonight.

The thunder threat diminishes to the isolated variety Thursday, followed by scattered storms Friday afternoon. Models hint at a Monsoon break starting this weekend, courtesy of a dry westerly flow aloft. Storm chances cease by Sunday, potentially lasting through the middle of next week.
