Thursday’s Tucson Forecast: Monsoon storms fighting Pacific influences

Dry air’s about to win the Monsoon battle.

Isolated storms are expected to develop this afternoon through the first half of the weekend. Rain chances for Tucson range from 20% today and tomorrow to a mere 10% on Saturday. High temperatures wrapping up the work week peak in the upper 90s.

High pressure parks over Northwestern Mexico starting this weekend, shifting winds aloft from the southeast to west. This allows dry Pacific air to enter the Sonoran Desert, shutting down storm chances by Sunday. As the atmosphere dries out, temperatures heat up. Tucson is slated to reach triple digit high temps this weekend through much of next week.

As of August 3rd, Tucson has reached 100° or above 45 times, which is a typical tally through early August.
