Thursday’s Tucson Forecast: Why is it so warm?

September temps on repeat.

The catalyst behind the Autumn warmth is several hundred miles away from Arizona. High pressure over the Gulf Coast states drives temperatures 7-9° above average. Much of Metro Tucson peaks in the low to mid 90s with sunny skies.

This strong dome of high pressure begins to retrograde over the next several days, moving back toward the Grand Canyon State. As a result, daytime highs will stay parked in the 90s through the middle of next week.

Warmest days appear to be Monday and Tuesday, as temps top out in the mid to upper 90s for much of Pima County. For perspective, the average high temperature for mid October is in the mid 80s.
