Monday’s Tucson Forecast: Quick-hitting Winter storm moving in

Valley rain, mountain snow and cooler temperatures are on the way.

Despite mostly cloudy skies, temperatures this afternoon reach the mid 70s. A cold front currently off the California coast may touch off a stray shower tonight. Overnight lows bottom out in the mid 50s.

Tuesday afternoon features gusty southwest winds up to 25 MPH & a 20% chance of showers. The cold front arrives in Southern Arizona tomorrow night, bringing the best chance of valley rain & mountain snow. Expect a 70% chance of showers late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. An isolated thunderstorm can’t be ruled out.

Showers & snow above 5,500 feet tapers off after the Wednesday morning rush. Valley rainfall totals approach the 0.10-0.50″ range. Mount Lemmon, Mount Graham and the White Mountains should pick up 5-10″ snow above 7,000 feet.

Cooler temps settle in for the middle of the week. Highs Wednesday struggle to reach the low 60s, followed by lows in the low 40s. Models hint at a strong warming trend for the weekend as highs return to the 70s.
