Thursday’s Tucson Forecast: A run toward record heat

Chasing history this afternoon.

Highs today run 12-14° above average, courtesy of high pressure parked off the California coast. Today’s forecast high of 82° would break the record of 81° set in 2016. Expect sunny skies and east winds around 5-15 MPH this afternoon.

Temperatures remain in the low 80s through the first half of the weekend.

Next week continues to look unsettled, thanks to a pair of storm systems. A weak trough kicks through Sunday, knocking temperatures down to the low 70s. Models peg a second storm system stalling off Baja California the middle of next week. Gusty winds are possible Monday through Wednesday with highs peaking in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Long range computer models hint at a surge of moisture entering the Sonoran Desert late next week, which may boost rain chances.
