Friday’s Tucson Forecast: From 80s to an emerging rain chance

A pattern change awaits for next week.

Before it arrives, high temperatures peak in the low 80s. Driving the Winter warmth is a strong dome of high pressure off the California coast. Today’s forecast high of 83° is three degrees shy of tying the record set last year.

An approaching storm system cranks up the Sonoran Wind Machine to start the weekend. With southwest winds up to 25 MPH, highs Saturday reach the low 80s again. By Sunday, highs drop to the mid 70s.

Next week features a second storm system stalling off the Baja California coast. Gusty winds redevelop Monday, lingering through Wednesday. Models indicate this storm system tapping into subtropical moisture late next week. This moisture boost helps introduce a chance of showers Wednesday and Thursday.

Exact rainfall totals are unclear this far out as models are at odds over how much moisture enters the state.

Temperatures late next week may struggle to reach the mid 60s, which is below average for mid February standards.
