100s now, fire weather concerns coming soon.
High pressure cranks up the heat for the work week. Daytime temperatures peak around 100-102° this afternoon through Thursday. These temperatures run roughly 10° above average for early May.
If the forecast comes to fruition, the number of triple digit day in Tucson this year will increase to 5. Typically, the 5th 100° day of the year doesn’t arrive until June 1st.
Snapping the triple digit streak is a storm system stalling north of the state by late week. Gusty winds develop Thursday, which likely increase the wildfire danger. Expect breezes to linger into Saturday as highs drop to the low to mid 90s for Mother’s Day weekend.
A few long range models indicate gusty winds may linger into early next week.
